Some notes for GU6 Coaches:

·          The game time slot is 60 minutes in length.  The first 30 should be dedicated to “practice” time…working with the girls dribbling, striking the ball using proper techniques (starting to limit the number of “toe-pokes”), throw-ins, etc.  The last 30 is “game time”…

·          Games are 4v4 on a pretty small field.  “Quarters” should last about 6-7 minutes to allow for player rotation, with a brief half or 4-5 minutes.  Each player should play at least ¾ of every game.  Coaches are ON the field with the girls, coaching and encouraging…keep it POSITIVE!

·          There is NO formal “Score” kept…no standings and NO first place trophies given out at the end of the season…EVERY girl will get a trophy as a sign of a GREAT season.

·          There are no referees…the coaches are there and can make sure that the game flows and restarts are taken correctly.  They should do throw ins when the ball crosses the “touch” line as well as corner kicks and goal kicks (as appropriate) when the ball crosses the goal line, and finally kick offs to start the game and second half (as well as after scores)…MOST of the “laws” of soccer apply, but EVERYTHING needs to be corrected for the sake of LEARNING!

Our main goal is simple…the girls need to have FUN first and foremost.  They’ll start to learn soccer and some will pick it up faster due to natural abilities and/or desires…regardless, this needs to be fun environment where they can make new friends and begin to learn the concept of being part of a team…we want them to fall in love with the game and come back year after year!!!
